The Defeat of Satan– Visible or Invisible?

I received an email question about whether Satan has been defeated. Most people claim that the ungodliness in the world proves that Satan is “in charge”– that he is still ‘the god of this world. But, from the Biblical perspective, that is not true at all. Below is the correspondence– with the name deleted for privacy purposes.

Here is the question:

<<I have been watching your Morning Musings on Satan. question, did Christ defeat Satan? 12th chapter of relation, Satan was overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony. That is how Satan was defeated. You can’t use physical eyes to see Satan’s defeat. The same is true of the kingdom. The kingdom can only be seen through spiritual eyes.>>

Here is my response about the Defeat of Satan

Mr. …., thanks for contacting me! You stated:

“I have been watching your morning musings on Satan.  question, did Christ defeat Satan?  12th chapter of relation, Satan was overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony.  That is how Satan was defeated.  You can’t use physical eyes to see Satan’s defeat.  The same is true of the kingdom.  The kingdom can only be seen through spiritual eyes.”

I fully agree that:

1. Christ has defeated Satan. Paul knew that the victory was near in Romans 16:20.

2. That victory was symbolized in the fall of Old Covenant Jerusalem, who had become the enemy (i.e. Satan– See Philippians 3:18).  Further note– For a study of the reality that Old Covenant Jerusalem had become “the enemy of God” in the NT, see my book: Like Father Like Son, On Clouds of Glory. This is an important issue that too many Bible students are not familiar with.

Like Father Like Son, Don K Preston
This book has a great study of how Old Covenant Judah became the enemy of God! A must read!

3. While the fall of Jerusalem was the visible sign,  the victory was indeed spiritual, fully “seen” with the eyes of faith. This is borne out by the Greek in Matthew 24:30– they would see the sign of the Son of Man in heaven.

The Greek indicates, not that they would see something in the sky, but that the events of the fall of Jerusalem would be the visible sign of the spiritual reality– Christ is ruling in the heavens!

Thanks again!

Don K.

The fact is that the Bible is very clear about the defeat of Satan— Christ has won that battle!
